A site previously owned by the Greater London Authority in Rainham is set to become the first affordable passivhaus development in the UK.
Passivhaus is based on delivering homes with low running costs and providing exceptional comfort using very little energy for heating and cooling.
A partnership between Circle Housing Group and Climate Energy Homes, the Rainham development will consist of 51 rented homes in rows of two and three storey terraces. It will offer 3 & 4 bedroom houses and 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments with amenity space, car and cycle parking, landscaping and, pumping station.
As well as offering reduced energy consumption and low running costs for future residents, it would have been interesting to read about this project incorporating off-site construction methods and the use of off-site manufactured modular buildings to reduce the energy used during construction.
